A recent court case between Pioneer food and Eskom has found that even though Pioneer is paying their electricity bill to the municipality, the municipality is not paying Eskom. The municipality is in default. The issue lies between Eskom and the municipality, NOT the indirect client despite their bill being paid in full!
The court ruled that Pioneer has no grounds to take Eskom to court and that the power utility is well within it’s rights to cut power to their direct customer, leaving all paying customers, both business and individuals without power.
There are 203 defaulting municipalities out of approximately 275 municipalities. Despite your sterling payment record, you may well find yourself in the dark!
